Best potluck ever!

What great food! What great neighbours! What a good time was had by close to 70 residents of Bayshore Towers at the fourth annual potluck social organized by Bayshore Neighbours. The cake, baked by Hazel, was one of many sweets on a fabulous dessert table. (Click on any photo for a larger look.)

Ken digs in at the buffet of main dishes that includes roast beef, poached salmon, roasted chicken, spinach lasagna, chili, meatballs, scalloped potatoes and much more.

Here's one of the two salad tables at the potluck that featured shrimp, deviled eggs, spinach dip with pumpernickel and some amazing salads.

From plum pudding with sauce, apple cheesecake, mocha torte, chocolate mousse to all kind of treats, the dessert table had it all.

Heather decorated the potluck as the theme this year was the Highlands of Scotland.

Thus we heard Jim deliver a tribute to Robbie Burns.

But three young highland dancers were the featured entertainment. From the left, Laura Schindel, Isabelle Sanders and Haley Wade who twisted an ankle a few days earlier and was unable to dance.

Isabelle amazed us with a traditional sword dance.

Then Isabelle and Laura took our collective breath away with dazzling footwork.

A small group of residents, with Arlene, Sue and Tiny, shown here, organized the potluck, an annual January fixture at Bayshore Towers.

Here's Maryann, chair of the organizing committee, and close friend Tiny.

There were so many door prizes it seemed almost everyone took home a prize.

But the grand prize was a huge gift basket, donated by the Bayshore Towers Board, that was won by Margaret, a visitor from St. John's, Newfoundland. At left is Roger, president of the Board who served as master of ceremonies, at right is Maryann, hard-working chair of the organizing committee.

Bill and Bernice, seated in the middle, were two of three 82-year-olds among the residents and guests.

Twelve-week-old Monica, shown with aunt Usha and mother Parvesh (at rear), was the youngest attendee.

AFTERTHOUGHTS

What a party, what a fest,
The Pot Luck Supper was the best...
With dishes that came from many lands...
Created with love by many hands...
Congratulations to the crew
Who made it such a happy "do"...
The hard work put forth by everyone
Made an evening chock full of neighbourly fun...
Thanks also to the bonnie wee girls
Who delighted us all with their talented swirls...
When they performed the Scottish sabre dance...
'Twas a treat for us all... an evening enhanced...
