Meet & Greet 2011
Here are some of the Bayshore Towers residents gathered for the annual Meet & Greet organized by the active group of owners and tenants known as Bayshore Neighbours. About 40 residents enjoyed home-made baked goods and a fruit punch on the first Sunday in December. Click on the photo for an enlarged view.We have some of the best bakers in Bay Ridges (our neighbourhood on Frenchman's Bay in Pickering) as demonstrated by Gwenn, Helen, Henny, Ken Marcie, Norlene and Sue. The punchmaster this year was Georgs. The table was set and decorated by Hazel. A new resident, Hector, gifted each attendee with a lovely calendar.
Bayshore Neighbours purchased and decorated the Christmas tree that stands in the Lower Lobby of Bayshore Towers. The tree in the photo in the Lobby was furnished by DCC #19 and decorated by Patrick, his wife and daughter, John, Arlene, Jocelyne and Marcie.

Best potluck ever!

What great food! What great neighbours! What a good time was had by close to 70 residents of Bayshore Towers at the fourth annual potluck social organized by Bayshore Neighbours. The cake, baked by Hazel, was one of many sweets on a fabulous dessert table. (Click on any photo for a larger look.)

Ken digs in at the buffet of main dishes that includes roast beef, poached salmon, roasted chicken, spinach lasagna, chili, meatballs, scalloped potatoes and much more.

Here's one of the two salad tables at the potluck that featured shrimp, deviled eggs, spinach dip with pumpernickel and some amazing salads.

From plum pudding with sauce, apple cheesecake, mocha torte, chocolate mousse to all kind of treats, the dessert table had it all.

Heather decorated the potluck as the theme this year was the Highlands of Scotland.

Thus we heard Jim deliver a tribute to Robbie Burns.

But three young highland dancers were the featured entertainment. From the left, Laura Schindel, Isabelle Sanders and Haley Wade who twisted an ankle a few days earlier and was unable to dance.

Isabelle amazed us with a traditional sword dance.

Then Isabelle and Laura took our collective breath away with dazzling footwork.

A small group of residents, with Arlene, Sue and Tiny, shown here, organized the potluck, an annual January fixture at Bayshore Towers.

Here's Maryann, chair of the organizing committee, and close friend Tiny.

There were so many door prizes it seemed almost everyone took home a prize.

But the grand prize was a huge gift basket, donated by the Bayshore Towers Board, that was won by Margaret, a visitor from St. John's, Newfoundland. At left is Roger, president of the Board who served as master of ceremonies, at right is Maryann, hard-working chair of the organizing committee.

Bill and Bernice, seated in the middle, were two of three 82-year-olds among the residents and guests.

Twelve-week-old Monica, shown with aunt Usha and mother Parvesh (at rear), was the youngest attendee.

Here's the Potluck Organizing Committee, from the left, Maryann, chair, Tiny, Marcie, Hazel, Arlene and Sandra.
AFTERTHOUGHTS
What a party, what a fest,
The Pot Luck Supper was the best...
With dishes that came from many lands...
Created with love by many hands...
Congratulations to the crew
Who made it such a happy "do"...
The hard work put forth by everyone
Made an evening chock full of neighbourly fun...
Thanks also to the bonnie wee girls
Who delighted us all with their talented swirls...
When they performed the Scottish sabre dance...
'Twas a treat for us all... an evening enhanced...

Meet & Greet at Bayshore Towers

More than 60 residents gathered in the lobby of Bayshore Towers this afternoon for the first Meet & Greet in the building's 35-year existence. Click on any image for a larger view.

Marcie made the delightful punch, Arlene found Peak Frean cookies at a great price, and Gwen, Hazel S, Henny and Maria contributed their baked goods to the refreshment table.

Paul and Barb (left) won a $150 shopping spree at Metro while Natasha, shown with a son, won $100 toward her February condo fees. Georgs, the chair of Bayshore Neighbours, stands behind the winners. Not shown is Roger, the president of Durham Condominium Corporation #19, whose name was drawn first but who, in a show of class, declined the Metro gift certificate.

James Dawson Cornelius, the youngest resident at Bayshore Towers, is shown with mom Sonia and great-grandmother Helen.

Bill and Bernice, the newest residents at Bayshore Towers, are show with daughter Marjory.

Arlene (left) and Marcie (right) did all the work but somehow Georgs managed to grab the credit for organizing the Meet & Greet which is sure to become a regular fixture on the Bayshore Towers calendar. The event was organized, promoted and funded by Bayshore Neighbours, an informal association of owners and tenants active in community life in our common home.
